Trader killed in Patna’s busy Kadamkuan area

Two bike-borne criminals shot and killed a 45-year-old trader near Naga Baba Thakurbari in the busy Kadamkuan area of the city on Monday. The deceased, Ramesh Kumar, was from Nalanda district and owned an electronic shop in Bakarganj. He lived near the old Arvind Mahila College building in the same area.

According to Patna Town DSP Ashok Kumar Singh, the incident occurred at 10.30am when Ramesh was riding his Scooty to his shop. “The criminals intercepted him near Naga Baba Thakurbari and fired a bullet at him, hitting his body. Ramesh tried to escape but fell to the ground,” he stated.

The DSP added, “One of the criminals then got off the bike and approached Ramesh, shooting four bullets into his head at close range. He escaped with his partner, who was on the bike. Ramesh was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), but was pronounced dead by the doctors. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family.”

“The evidence suggests that a professional shooter may be responsible, as the killer was wielding two pistols, one in each hand. A typical criminal would not be able to use both hands to shoot so effortlessly. The criminals brandished both pistols in the air to intimidate the people nearby before fleeing without any obstacles. The CCTV footage shows the criminals wearing helmets, and the police are working on identifying them. The incident appears to be the result of an ongoing dispute related to land or an extramarital affair. The police are investigating the case from all angles and expect to solve it within three to four days as significant leads have been obtained. Due to the ongoing investigation, further details cannot be disclosed at this time,” the DSP explained.

In the meantime, the traders at Bakarganj electronic market closed their shops in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. “Previously, our shops would remain open until 10-11 pm. However, now we are compelled to close by 7-8 pm,” stated Vimal Kumar, a trader at the Bakarganj market.
